What does it take or when will our site make it as one of the first pages Google searches when you type in our business name?

It all depends on how legitimate Google thinks your site is.  They decipher this by a couple of things:

1.  Providing Good Information-
information that doesn't just sell a product and info that isn't just opinion. Putting a couple articles on say.."how to pick the sofa that is just right for your needs"  This gives searchers information they may be looking for other than just a product to buy.  This particular article is a good example.  Design Renovations Inc. is not making any profit by displaying this article, it is simply giving the viewer information that may help them with their own site.

2.  Hits -
spiders want to see that your site is beingused alot for the searches viewers are using - linking to other sites is a good way to do this as well as getting as many people as possible to visit your site

3.  A legitimate site -
your site really contains information on it that it claims to have. 

These are the 3 best ways and least expensive ways to get high ranking...but there are many ways to do this (I call this internet marketing) that don't take quite as long. 

The above will take several months for the spiders to pick up on.  So if you are in a hurry you may want to consider internet marketing campaigns through search engines such as Google.  Or possibly submitting yourself to some advertising sites that specialize in what you are marketing.  I have worked with alot of restaurants in marketing and we put them on some travel sites that would reach customers visiting the area.  Finding other sites you can submit your business to where your customers could potentially visit is the idea here.

In summary, we don't have control over search engines ranking (unless you pay them directly for advertising placements - you see this on Google to the right hand side of the search screen).  Search engines are a business too and need to make sure that their customers get the info they are searching for. Therefore they make sure that the highest ranked sites are those that are valid and are the closest related subject to that which is being searched.
